It was as a result of a causal conversation about checkbook registers that this topic was born.
When I think about my years a bank vice president, I talked with countless clients who complained about bank overdraft fees and not being able to keep track of personal transactions.
The most intense customer service conversations centered on the lack of personal financial responsibility as it relates to keeping up myriad of banking transactions.
Countless Ways to Monitor Bank Transactions
There are countless computer-based applications available to assist customers with monitoring bank transactions.
Additionally, there are smart phones that have the ability to operate as a mobile office giving you the capability to pay bills, transfer funds, schedule payments, etc.
With all the technological advances available, there is something a bit magical about checkbook registers.
In my opinion, nothing is more important than writing down income and expenses and having it readily available in a wallet or purse.
In truth, honestly:
- I enjoy the touch of checking off an item as it clears my checking account.
- I personally use a checkbook register to keep track to transactions.
- I will be honest to admit, I am a check writer!
Let me explain before you put a label on me…
In addition, I write checks for items such as donations, taxes and business expenses. I enjoy technology and frequent my local ATM. I rarely go into an actual bank to see a bank teller.
As stated, I do believe that checkbook registers are needed to properly manage personal finances.
If you don’t record your transactions, there is a greater possibility of you not being able to balance your budget.
